About

With over 35 years in the business, Dalton is the driving school that has educated more drivers (of all ages and skill levels) in south Sydney. Our difference lies in customised driving lessons, support for supervising parents, an advanced driving program, practice tests and qualified instructors with decades of valuable experience.

Dalton instructors care about getting your learner driver through their driving test, but also making sure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to stay safe on the roads.

We currently provide driving lessons in the Sutherland Shire, St. George, Illawarra & Bankstown areas. Lessons for learners are undertaken in our fleet of late model cars, fitted with dual controls for your safety, whilst lessons for older and advanced drivers may be taken in the driver’s own car. Value for money packages are also available.

Everyone’s needs are different, and our expertise allows us to pinpoint your learning needs, whether it is negotiating a right hand turn safely or successfully completing a reverse park. To make learning easier, tuition must follow a specific order so that the necessary skills can be developed quickly. We utilise this order to provide the most efficient training with the best results. It’s all about quality, rather than quantity.

We also offer unique customer support, providing guidance and resolving issues to ensure everything goes smoothly throughout the learning process. We are truly here to help!

Meet Our Team
  • What is the advantage of taking professional tuition vs home tuition?
Professional tuition will cover the essential driving and safety skills required to pass the test and stay safe on the roads. Our tuition can complement home tuition, providing the student with a foundation that can be worked on at home and support for parents. With 35 years of experience we know how to teach all types of learner drivers, identify and work with any learning issues, and understand what is required to be a safe and independent driver. We can also ensure the learner is test ready, and take them for a practice driving test. To ensure everything goes smoothly, we also provide advice relating to the log book and the procedures on test day.
  • How many lessons will I need?
To get the most out of the tuition, we recommend students see us regularly over a period of time to monitor their progress and skill levels. We offer 5 and 10 lesson pack options which provide a solid foundation for further tuition.
  • When should I start taking lessons?
Dalton instructors can assist at any stage of the learner’s tuition. If you are just getting started, we will help with the basics to make sure you develop the right skills quickly, which will make home practice easier and more productive. If you have been learning for a while, we will start with an evaluation drive so we can quickly identify your learning needs, rectify faults and get you focused on developing your driving skills and confidence. It's not just about driving around, it's about teaching you what you need and giving you guidance for home practice. If it's time to start thinking about booking your driving test, we can fine tune your preparation by taking you around the test areas. We take you for a practice driving test, putting you under test conditions and scoring you against a similar test sheet that the examiner will use on test day. This also helps ease test anxiety.
  • Are Dalton cars fitted with dual controls?
All the Dalton cars are fitted with all the standard safety features as well as dual controls.
  • Does Dalton work from a curriculum?
All our instructors work from an advanced curriculum to ensure effective advancement in driving skills and safety for the test. The content from the curriculum has been tailored from over 30 years experience in the field.
  • Where do I meet the instructor for lessons?
The instructors can pick up from wherever is convenient for the student. Whether it’s from school, home, the station or even work. Provided the pickup location is within the areas Dalton operates in.
  • Where will the lessons be conducted?
The lessons are conducted locally, based on the skill level of the learner and the content for the lesson. The lessons can be conducted in quiet back streets, busy main streets, freeways and country roads. We also take you around the test areas before you go for your driving test.
  • Is Dalton accredited to enter lessons into the logbook as 3 for 1?
    Yes.
  • How many 3 for 1 lessons can I take?
The first 10 1 hour lessons will count for the 3 for 1 with an accredited instructor. Contributing a total of 30 hours to the logbook.
  • Can I use the instructor’s car to do the test?
Yes, we offer a 2 hour pack for $220 (including GST where applicable) which includes a warm up session and the use of the instructor’s car during the test. The instructor will pick up from home and drop off after the test and assist with the the licencing process at Service NSW.
  • How do I know I am ready for the driving test?
It's NOT just about completing the requirements set out in the log book or the length of time you have held your learners licence. If you can drive without needing any assistance or reminders from your home tutor or driving instructor, then you know you are test ready. To be sure, Dalton instructors will take you for a practice driving test, putting you under test conditions and scoring you against a similar test sheet that the examiner will use on test day. It also helps to ease test anxiety.
  • Do you provide the Safer Drivers Course?
Yes, Dalton is affiliated with National Driver Education who have been a provider since the start of this program. Courses are run locally at Gymea Bowling Club on Saturdays and in school holidays. For upcoming dates or to register go to www.ndeaustralia.com.au
